Rabbi Menashe East, spiritual leader of Mt. Freedom Jewish Center in Randolph, presented a fascinating three-part series titled “The Shape of Zion,” under the auspices of Our Jewish World, coordinated by Melanie Levitan. The series, which was free and open to the public, was held on Tuesdays, June 5, 12 and 19, at 12:30 p.m., at the Morris County Library, 30 E. Hanover Ave., in Whippany.
The rabbi’s series focused on some of the key issues that helped shape the character of the state of Israel since its founding in 1948 up to the present, with particular attention to the rabbinic treatment of these issues. Rabbi East said, “This course will give context to some of the important issues that Israel has faced in her 70 years and how these relate to Israel and world Jewry today.”
Known as “Rav Menashe,” the rabbi sits on the Rabbinic Council of the Hebrew Academy of Morris County (the area’s community Jewish day school), as well as the Rabbinic Council of Morris County. He is a founder of the Interfaith Council of Morris County, through which he has worked to promote interfaith programs and foster understanding throughout the Morris County community.
