Like so much else in our world these days, Diversity Day was done virtually this year, on Sunday, July 12. Sadly, we couldn’t be all together on the Morristown Green this year, but every participating organization made a video message.
We released the whole video of the messages, interspersed with local musical performances on the July 12. Then the video was sent out by all of the organizations to their memberships. You can see ours by clicking on this link.
Hats off to college student Jessica Posnock for taking our script and photos, and turning them into a vivid statement of who we are. And kudos as well to Susan Neigher for gathering and organizing the photoes and writing the script.
Available at www.diversitydaymc.org is a multicultural cookbook. Thank you to Anne Gorman for selecting recipes from our section’s cookbook and formatting them for the project.
Our section is a founding member of the Diversity Coalition of Morris County, which hosts Diversity Day. It is through the relationships formed by participating in the coalition that we were able to learn about immigrant needs from Wind of the Spirit and about the Roma people from Sheetal Bangalore. We visited the Islamic Center of Morris County and then spent a Shabbat evening with their members, getting to know them person to person.
In this time of turmoil, it is more important than ever to live by our values, learn from our neighbors and treat them with genuine respect.
