Rabbi Mark Biller, spiritual leader of Temple Gates of Prayer in Queens, New York, explored what he called “The Most Unusual Book in the Torah–the Book of Job,” as part of Our Jewish World’s Clergy Learning Series. Rabbi Biller’s series was held via Zoom on Thursday, March 4 and 11, at 1 p.m.
The Clergy Learning Series is coordinated by Our Jewish World co-chairs Ilene Dorf Manahan and Melanie Levitan.
Job, the main character, calls God unfair and challenges the Divine’s running of events!
The story includes a character called “Satan,” who has God’s ear and wreaks havoc on people’s lives!
Job’s neighbors counsel Job to have faith in God’s justice, and God appears at the end of the book to declare those neighbors wrong!
“So what message is God giving us in this book, and what message are the Rabbis giving us by including the Book of Job in our Holy Canon?” asks the rabbi. Find out the answers at this thought-provoking two-part series.
